How do I shorten a video using Sony Movie Studio software?

Trying to learn video editing software and in hours of frustration and in the meantime have mastered fading, text entry, audio effects etc. But I cannot for the life of me understand how to SHORTEN the video timeline. I have 30+ minutes of video clips that over half of the material can be deleted to make a 12 minute video in total.

I delete the unwanted sections, leaving what I desire for the ideal video time… with black screen between the edited video segments during playback. So now I have 12 minutes of desired video with 18 minutes of black between the segments.

All I want to do is bring all the edited video clips together aka eliminate the black sections. Video editor is forcing me to work on the 30 minute time schedule.

Instructions make zero sense to me on how you shorten this time. It should be automatic as I delete the unwanted sections.

Obvious that you should be able to drag and drop the edited video segments together. But elusive for me to understand.

Anybody know how to use this program and what I need to do?

Thanks.

    Hi there.
I’m not sure if I understood your question, but I’ll give a try.

If you need to shrink or shorten your videos, it’s very simple.
Go to the piece of video you wanna do so, on the left side of it with your mouse, just drag it forward or toward.

The same procedure and pressing Ctrl key speeds it up or slows it down as well.

    I hope I was helpful.
    Have a nice day.
