Gantt charts, what is the best programm to do them?

I’m working on a software development project at a university, and the project’s scope is about 1 to 2 years with 5 programmers, I need to create the schedule and i want to use Gantt charts, what is the best programm available… is Microsoft Project good and easy to use?

some thing like reduction of resources used in the project life cycle. OR the development is on schedule OR
something like that to impress the client.
The charts are to be prepared in excel or anyother simple reporting tool….i am not a programmer, but a technical writer.
